OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
I really enjoy fishing, and our gospel for today is a favorite of mine for many reasons.  It is an amazing “fish story” that is TRUE!  Most of mine stories become a little suspect; the fish get bigger and more plentiful, but none of my stories are this amazing.
In this text, Jesus meets Peter and his fishing buddies where they are, at the end of a long night’s work.  Jesus borrows Peter’s boat for a pulpit, then gives him real “hotspot” advice, and fills Peter’s nets with an astonishing number of fish.  After all that, Jesus called Peter to follow him, which Peter immediately & obediently did, leaving behind his expensive boat, equipment and the valuable pile of fresh fish.
Jesus also has some fishing advice for you and me today, your nets will be full too!
