Peter's Vision of a Sheet with Animals by Domenico Fetti, circa 1619

 Pilgrim Lutheran Church

The Fifth Sunday of Easter

May 15, 2022

We're glad & thankful you've come here to watch our service and to worship the one true God!

This was another exciting Sunday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church!  Once again, we had lots of great activities going on, starting with our 10:30 am Worship Service.  Afterward, we gathered for food, conversations, and an adult Bible class, in which we're studying Revelation, one of the most fascinating books of the Bible.  If you'd like to watch a video of this Bible Study, please contact Pastor Mark.  Children also gathered for Sunday School, which we present every Sunday for children of all ages.  These classes are full of activities and teaching, so the children learn how much God loves them!

If you live in the Burton area, please consider joining us for any or all of these great events!

Here is information about todays worship service:

SCRIPTURE READINGS
First Reading:  Acts 11:1-18
Epistle:  Revelation 21:1-7
Gospel:  John 16:12-22

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP
In Acts 10, the apostle Peter was given a fantastic vision, during which a voice from heaven told Peter “What God has made clean, do not call common.”.  The Holy Spirit then led Peter to Cornelius, who was then baptized after Peter told him about Jesus.  Later, in chapter 11, Peter finds himself addressing other church leaders, who challenged this baptism.  How does Peter’s testimony, “…who was I, that I could stand in God’s way?” apply to us?

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR SUNDAY
  First Reading:   Acts 20:17–35
              Psalm:  Psalm 23
             Epistle:  Revelation 7:9–17
            Gospel:  John 10:22–30

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP SUNDAY
It is Good Shepherd Sunday, and the familiar twenty-third Psalm is echoed throughout our worship.  Our Lord went through the valley of the shadow of death in our place, leading from death to eternal life.
In today’s gospel reading, some Jews claim Jesus has not told them who He is.  Jesus points out their problem; they know who He is but refuse to believe it.  They are not among His sheep.  When we struggle in this way, Jesus reminds us:  His promises are clear, certain & life-changing!

The Third Sunday of Easter

We're glad & thankful you've come here to watch our service and to worship the one true God!

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR SUNDAY
  First Reading:  Acts 9:1–22
             Psalm:  Psalm 30
             Epistle:  Revelation 5:1–14
            Gospel:  John 21:1–19

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP SUNDAY
Today’s Gospel reading has extraordinary sections; a second miraculous fish miracle which includes a fire-side breakfast miracle on the beach, and a powerful dialog between Jesus and Peter.  So, you ask, what is going on in this third Jesus-appearance following His resurrection?  The answer is:  A LOT!

In the first main section, Jesus shows up to encourage and restore all His disciples who went fishing the previous night.  But Jesus comes specifically to Peter, to forgive, restore and send him forth as a mature “fisher of men”.  We will focus a lot on Peter, and unpack the gracious mercy of Jesus, given to Peter and to you also!
