Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

Hello Pilgrim family, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Welcome to our worship service for December 27th, the first Sunday after Christmas!

Please click HERE to watch this worship service.

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
In our sermon we focus on the temple gathering of Simeon, Mary & Joseph and Anna, all brought together by this Baby, the Lord's Christ.  It is a beautiful moment, a celebration of obedience, of patience, and of being released, set free from captivity.  As the epilogue to our "What Child is This?" Advent journey, we are reminded that this Child changes everything!  How has this Baby changed you?  How might He change you even more, as you ask Him to help you follow HIm more closely?

STEWARDSHIP SCRIPTURE FOR THIS COMING WEEK
"The works of His hands are faithful and just; all His precepts are trustworthy."  Psalm 111:7
Since God is always faithful and just and trustworthy, I should bring us great joy to shower our neighbors with these qualities also!  Of the gifts God has given you, which can you start to use this week, being faithful, just and trustworthy to others around you?  How can you share these gifts specifically with someone who may not yet know Jesus as their Savior?

Praying God’s blessings on you and your family, as we end this very eventful and challenging year and begin a new time of God's love and provision!

Pilgrim Christmas Eve worship service

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

Hello Pilgrim family, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen

It's Christmas Eve!  The end of our Advent preparations is here!  Although we aren’t gathered together in-person to worship our newborn King, we are thankful that we can gather together through this technology.  It just seems to fit 2020, where we've all learned to adapt, to adjust, and to thank God for all his blessings, even amidst sorrow.

So, let's worship together, giving glory and honor to Christ, our newborn King!

Pilgrim Worship, Sunday December 20, 2020

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

Hello Pilgrim family, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Blessed Fourth Sunday in Advent to each of you!

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY

One of the greatest announcements in the past, present and future of this world was made to Mary, a poor, young Jewish girl, by way of a simple conversation.  God our Heavenly Father chose Mary, as undeserving and insignificant as she was, to play an important role in His salvation plan.  And so also, God has chosen you and me, to also have important roles in His church.  You and I are favored, blessed and forgiven by our loving Father.  “Rejoice, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”

STEWARDSHIP SCRIPTURE FOR THIS WEEK
Psalm 89:1   “I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make Your faithfulness known through all generations.

THERE WILL BE NO CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE AT PILGRIM THIS YEAR, our service will be on-line only.

Pilgrim Advent worship, Wednesday December 16th

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

Hello pilgrim family, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen

Welcome to the second of three midweek Advent worship service videos from Pilgrim Lutheran Church!

Advent is a season of spiritual preparation, remembering the birth of Jesus, God becoming human flesh to save us and His entire creation from the corruption of sin.  Advent is a time of getting ready.  I pray this service helps you to get ready to welcome Jesus again, to be forgiven again, to be refreshed and encouraged again.

Scripture is full of God’s people being joyful  as they recognize His blessings.  King David, the unborn John the Baptist, and many others reflect what the Apostle Paul wrote:  “rejoice in the Lord always.”  In each case, they rejoiced as they saw God’s plans coming to fruition.  So tonight we ask:  What Child is This?  He is John’s Joy…and yours!

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

Praying for each of you on this Lord's day!

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
In our Advent preparations today, both St. John the apostle and John the Baptist proclaim the joy of Jesus as the Light of the world.  God makes you, and all believers in His name His children; in baptism He has named you and claimed you!  Because our Lord continually gives His grace to us by His Word and Sacraments, we can “greatly rejoice in the LORD”!   This grace of our Lord Jesus Christ makes us holy; “He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it”!

Pilgrim Advent worship, Wednesday December 9th

Tonight, we will compare the lives of Sampson, a judge in ancient Israel history and Jesus, the child promised to be born of a young virgin, Mary 1000 years later.  There are several things these men had in common.  But how does Sampson help us understand the question we ask each week: What Child is This?

Pilgrim in-person worship is suspended

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

Hello pilgrim family, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen

Please click HERE to watch a video version of this message.

It's a great day to be children of God, redeemed and saved by our Christmas Savior!

The purpose of this message is pretty simple, really.  Based on many things considered, and many prayers, your pastor and your church leadership have determined it is best if we stop meeting in person on Sunday mornings for 2 weeks.  None of us likes this decision, because all of us look forward to gathering together on Sunday morning to worship our Lord.  But, with pandemic all around us, we firmly believe it is better to remain apart for two Sundays, December 13th and December 20th.  We’ll make a decision later, about Christmas Eve service and services thereafter.

In these next two weeks when we’re not getting together, please watch our online worship services in the safety of your home.  Or, we’d be happy to get you a DVD disc, which you can use to watch on your computer or your TV.   Please call me at the church office if you’d like to try this or if you know anyone who might.  I'm happy to help you figure out how to make some of these new things work!

So, we're pausing, taking a couple weeks off from worshipping in person on Sunday mornings.   Thanks be to God, we can still receive His gifts: His Word & forgiveness of our sins spoken to us, even while we’re apart!

In the meantime, please be COVID-safe and follow all the guidelines from our health experts.
  •   Limit your trips outside of your home to only those necessary.
  •   When you do go out, wear masks, stay as far away from folks around you as
possible, and wash your hands frequently.

Please take every precaution, so when we come together again   hopefully soon
we will only share Christian love & friendship, and nothing else!

In the name of Jesus our Savior, peace be with you.

Pilgrim Worship, Sunday December 6th

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

Praying God's comfort and peace upon each of you this Lord's day!

Today is the Second Sunday in Advent, and our Gospel reading is the first eight verses of St. Mark's gospel, which begins in medias res.  Far beyond an interesting literary device, this also describes how Jesus comes to us, in the midst of things.  The voice crying in the wilderness is both John, preparing the way for Jesus and Jesus Himself, calling to you in the wilderness of your life!  Receive His gifts and hear His calling this Advent season!

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Grace and peace to each of you, in the name of Jesus, our Savior!

Welcome to the first of three midweek Advent worship services from Pilgrim Lutheran Church!

Advent is a season of spiritual preparation, remembering the birth of Jesus, God becoming human flesh, so He could save us from our sins, a time of getting ready.  We pray this service is a peaceful time, to step out of the “fast lane” of our busy lives and to be forgiven again, to be refreshed, to be encouraged.
