SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR TODAY
  Old Testament:  Jeremiah 33:14–16
               Psalm:  Psalm 25:1–10
              Epistle:  1 Thessalonians 3:9–13
             Gospel:  Luke 21:25–36

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
Some days in our lives are more memorable than others.  Some of our days were & are joyful and full of blessed memories.  Other days were & are full of struggle and sadness.  We’ve all had difficult days, and perhaps this day is a difficult day for you.  Unfortunately, more difficult days are coming to you and to me.

Today Jeremiah proclaims some specific days; those days when Jesus Christ was born, was crucified and rose from the dead.  Jesus’ work in those days brought us joy, restoration, and hope.  In those days Jesus won your salvation on Calvary’s cross and guaranteed your resurrection with His.  Certainly, difficult days are coming for you and  me, but through those days, God’s hope and comfort are here!

“Be on guard, keep awake.  For you do not know when the time will come.”

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR TODAY
   Old Testament:   Isaiah 51:4–6
                Psalm:   Psalm 93
               Epistle:   Jude 20–25
               Gospel:   Mark 13:24–37

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
Jesus has promised to return in glory and judgement.  “When” we ask, but not even Jesus knows!  He said, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  Be on guard, keep awake.  For you do not know when the time will come” (Mark 13:32–33).
Did you catch that important advice?”  Be on guard, keep awake!  We trust the signs God gives us in His natural creation; we need also to watch and believe the end-time signs God gives us.
Trust God, that He is coming soon.  God has always kept His promises and He will keep this one too!

“But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”
Mark 13:13b

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR TODAY
 Old Testament:  Daniel 12:1–3
              Psalm:  Psalm 16
             Epistle:  Hebrews 10:11–25
            Gospel:  Mark 13:1–13

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
There are lots of mysteries in life, some are engaging & fun to watch from a distance.  All of us can become entranced at times; “Where will this story turn next, how will it end?”  Other mysteries are painful and frightening to endure, and for many mysteries, we won’t live to see the ending.  Certainly, God’s promised ending of this world is a great mystery, about which God tells us a great deal in His Word.   He certainly tells us all we need to know.  In today’s Gospel, Jesus describes a harsh & frightening future for His disciples, for His Church and for us.  Living in the end-times is hard; how can we endure it?

Pilgrim Worship All Saints Sunday

Pilgrim Lutheran Church

All Saints Sunday

November 7, 2021

In this service, we celebrate All Saints Day, and Pastor Larry Warsinski will preach and lead our service.

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR SUNDAY
  First Reading:  Revelation 7:9–17
             Psalm:  Psalm 149
            Epistle:  1 John 3:1–3
           Gospel:  Matthew 5:1–12

A SUMMARY OF THE READINGS
“A great multitude … from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages,” cry out, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne” (Rev. 7:9–17).  Faith-filled saints from every place and time, with unified voices, eternally magnify the Lamb of God.
As His beloved children, we, too, “shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:1–3).  Joined with the throng of angels and myriad saints, we shall “serve him day and night in his temple” (Rev. 7:9–17).
In our earthly tension vacillating between saint and sinner, faith and doubt, sacred and profane, we earnestly seek Jesus to calm our fears, comfort our spirits and forgive our sins.  In the midst of our constant struggle as believers, we need to be blessed.  And so we are. The poor in spirit, the meek, the hungry, the thirsty, the merciful, the pure and the persecuted are all blessed, and we will most certainly inherit the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 5:1–12).

Reformation Sunday

October 31, 2021

Blessed Reformation Sunday morning!
Welcome to the Reformation Sunday worship service at  Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Burton, Michigan!  We pray you will be blessed by singing many beautiful Reformation-themed hymns, and exploring a great promise from Jesus in the sermon.  God has prepared many gifts for you:  His Word, His forgiveness of your sins and blessed fellowship with His family of other believers!

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR TODAY
  First Reading:  Revelation 14:6–7
              Psalm:  Psalm 46
             Epistle:  Romans 3:19–28
            Gospel:  John 8:31–36

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
What does it mean to be free of something?  What experiences have you had, being “set free”?  Do you remember feeling this way as a child on the last day of school, looking forward to a summer vacation?  Are you looking forward to being set free from COVID fears, mask mandates and tyranny in general?  What about the opposite?  Where in your life might you feel enslaved or entrapped?

In our gospel reading for Sunday, Jesus tells you “…the truth will set you free”.  On many days, when I stumble again into sin, I don’t really feel that free, do you?  Do our sinful mistakes contradict what Jesus is telling us?   Come hear what God’s Word tells us and be encouraged again:  “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
