Reformation Sunday Worship October 31, 2021

Pilgrim Lutheran Church

Reformation Sunday

October 31, 2021

Blessed Reformation Sunday morning!
Welcome to the Reformation Sunday worship service at  Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Burton, Michigan!  We pray you will be blessed by singing many beautiful Reformation-themed hymns, and exploring a great promise from Jesus in the sermon.  God has prepared many gifts for you:  His Word, His forgiveness of your sins and blessed fellowship with His family of other believers!

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR TODAY
  First Reading:  Revelation 14:6–7
              Psalm:  Psalm 46
             Epistle:  Romans 3:19–28
            Gospel:  John 8:31–36

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
What does it mean to be free of something?  What experiences have you had, being “set free”?  Do you remember feeling this way as a child on the last day of school, looking forward to a summer vacation?  Are you looking forward to being set free from COVID fears, mask mandates and tyranny in general?  What about the opposite?  Where in your life might you feel enslaved or entrapped?

In our gospel reading for Sunday, Jesus tells you “…the truth will set you free”.  On many days, when I stumble again into sin, I don’t really feel that free, do you?  Do our sinful mistakes contradict what Jesus is telling us?   Come hear what God’s Word tells us and be encouraged again:  “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

We recently started a new Bible class on Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper!   We are enjoying lots of really good discussion and getting lots of questions answered.  If you'd like to watch videos of this study, please contact me.
