Pilgrim Lutheran Church

The Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost

October 24, 2021

Dear Friends in Christ Jesus,
Welcome to the Sunday October 24th worship service at  Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Burton, Michigan!  To watch the video of today's service, please click HERE.

We recently started a new Bible class on Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper!   We are enjoying lots of really good discussion and getting lots of questions answered.  If you'd like to watch videos of this study, please contact me.

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR TODAY
  Old Testament:  Jeremiah 31:7–9
               Psalm:  Psalm 126
              Epistle:  Hebrews 7:23–28
              Gospel:  Mark 10:46–52

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP TODAY
We can see Jesus’ earthly ministry as a long, winding road to Jerusalem, ending on Calvary's hideous cross.  Today, Jesus’ road goes through Jericho, His last stop before His final triumphant entry into Jerusalem.  The narrative structure of our church calendar is also winding down and will soon end.   Today, on the side of this road, we will meet Bartimaeus, a beggar whose eyes could see nothing, but whose faith saw Jesus clearly and whose lips proclaimed “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

We can learn a lot from Bartimaeus, about sight, faith and discipleship.  I pray we do, because our eyes lead us away, but faith shows us Jesus, and makes us true disciples.

Peace in Christ,

Pastor Mark
