Pilgrim Worship, Ash Wednesday February 17, 2021

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

We worship together, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Welcome to our Divine worship, Ash Wednesday 2021.  I do apologize, once again I forgot to get the video recording properly started.  The sermon was recorded, but not the entire service.

In the writings of the prophet Joel we read, “Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.”  (Joel 2:13)

In the Holy Scriptures, ashes symbolize repentance.  On Ash Wednesday we normally mark our foreheads with ashes to remind us that “we are dust and to dust we shall return.”  These ashes are in the shape of a cross, as a reminder that through the cross of Christ our sins are forgiven.  For us, this is both a sign of our humanity and of our redemption in Christ.  Living under the cross, we are called to daily die to sin and be raised to new life with Christ.

Remember, we will be worshiping in-person every Wednesday in Lent, beginning at 7pm.  Videos of these services will be posted online as quickly as practical following these services.

NEXT WEDNESDAY THEME:   "Return to Prayer"
