Thursday Psalms: Trust in God Alone!

Blessed Thursday to each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, your Savior!

There is no doubt, our daily lives are difficult.  We are shaken, attacked, battered, and tottering from Satan's attacks.  Last Sunday in Grand Blanc, the latest tragedy in a sickening series of evil reminds us of what we want to forget:  we cannot escape from an evil culture.  Not only that, we also fight against more diseases than can be counted, from the desires of our sinful flesh, and countless other hardships.  Many times, I have come to the point of hopelessness and despair.  I'd guess you've done so, too.

Perhaps today you're enduring evil attacks and crying out: "O LORD, how long?"  In Psalm 62 God speaks through His servant David, telling us that HE ALONE is our hope, our fortress and our salvation.

Psalm 62  A Psalm of David.

For God alone my soul waits in silence;

     from Him comes my salvation.

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress;

     I shall not be greatly shaken.

How long will all of you attack a man to batter him,

     like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?

They only plan to thrust him down from his high position.

     They take pleasure in falsehood.

     They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse.

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,

     for my hope is from Him.

He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress;

     I shall not be shaken.

On God rests my salvation and my glory;

     my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Trust in Him at all times, O people;

     pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.

Those of low estate are but a breath;

     those of high estate are a delusion;

     in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath.

10 Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery;

     if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

11 Once God has spoken;

     twice have I heard this:  that power belongs to God,

12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.

     For You will render to a man according to his work.

God has good news for you today: No matter who or what attacks you [vv 2-3]; God ALONE keeps you from being shaken. No matter if you are poor, wealthy or any other label [v 9]; God ALONE is your salvation! Chasing wealth by any means is temporary and meaningless [v 10]; God ALONE is eternal and everlasting!

I pray that in all things & situations, you grow to place your trust in God ALONE!

Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Mark
