Pilgrim Lutheran Church
The Second Sunday in Advent
December 5, 2021
This worship service held on the second Sunday in Advent and we'll spend a little time with John the Baptizer, "the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord"!
BIBLE READINGS FOR THIS SERVICE
Old Testament: Malachi 3:1–7b
Psalm: Psalm 66:1–12
Epistle: Philippians 1:2–11
Gospel: Luke 3:1–20
OUR THEME FOR THIS WORSHIP SERVICE
Sometimes we stumble over things, especially when we might be rushing around and not paying the closest attention. We’ve all done this at some time in our lives, and probably suffered skin knees or possibly more serious effects.
Psalm: Psalm 66:1–12

OUR THEME FOR THIS WORSHIP SERVICE
Sometimes we stumble over things, especially when we might be rushing around and not paying the closest attention. We’ve all done this at some time in our lives, and probably suffered skin knees or possibly more serious effects.
In today’s readings, Malachi tells us how people will stumble over God, who is “…like a refiner’s fire”. Psalm 66 reminds us God has “tested and tried us”; we stumble and stagger but God has “brought us out to a place of abundance”. In the Gospel, John the Baptizer proclaims Jesus will soon arrive, Who “will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire”. His hearers stumbled and asked “What then shall we do?”
We too stumble, and ask this same question. Watch and hear the good news of God’s response!
NEW CALENDAR change: We will NOT hold Advent worship services on Wednesday December 22nd as previously hoped.

We've begun a four-week Bible class, meeting on the four Sundays in Advent. Our topics will be four promises God gives us through His prophet Isaiah. Every Sunday we enjoy lots of lively discussion and you're welcome to join us in person or online. If you'd like to meet with us online, or watch videos of our classes, please contact me.
