Worship in Lent, Wednesday February 24, 2021

Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod)

Burton, Michigan

We worship together, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

All of our mid-week worship services during the season of Lent are organized under God's invitation to us:  “Return to the Lord your God for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and He relents over disaster” (Joel 2:13b).

The season of Lent is a time for self-examination and repentance, and it is a time for prayer.  But we often get interrupted or sidelined, and praying becomes a lower priority in our lives. Even our Lord’s closest disciples did not faithfully "watch and pray" with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

In today's service we explored the topic of prayer.  God commands us to pray, but we seldom do a very good job of it.  Through the apostle Paul, we are exhorted to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and yet none of us manages actually to do so.  Our prayer life ebbs and flows; sometimes we pray a lot, at other times we do not.  When God calls us to pray, He provides the means to do so and even fulfills what we ourselves are unable to do!

Join me, as we hear God's call to return to Him, by returning to prayer!

Remember, we will be worshiping in-person every Wednesday in Lent, beginning at 7pm.  Videos of these services will be posted online as quickly as practical following these services.
