The Brazen Serpent James Tissot
Pilgrim Lutheran Church
The Second Sunday in Lent
March 1, 2026
We're thankful you've come here to watch our service and to worship the one true God!
This was another exciting Sunday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church! We've returned to our regular Sunday schedule, starting with Adult Bible class at 9:15 am and then our 10:30 am Worship service. Afterward, we gathered for food and conversations, while the children enjoyed Sunday School. These classes are full of activities and teaching, so the children learn how much God loves them!
If you live in the Burton area, please consider joining us on Sunday mornings! Anyone can watch our services live on Facebook or on Pilgrim's website.
Here is information about this worship service:
SCRIPTURE READINGS
Old Testament: Genesis 12:1–9
Psalm: Psalm 121
Epistle: Romans 4:1–8, 13–17
Gospel: John 3:1–17
THEME FOR WORSHIP
In today’s gospel text we listen-in on a conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, a smart man. It’s hard to guess what Nicodemus expected Jesus to say after his night-time greeting, and Jesus said a lot! After his two questions generated answers which he didn’t understand, this rich man simply stopped talking and started listening to Jesus.
Jesus’ teaching reaches its climax with two of the most famous verses in Scripture. But we’ll focus more on the two previous verses, especially on two words: lifted up.
