Thursday Psalms: Blessed New Year!

Blessed Thursday to each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, your Savior!

With the turning of the calendar page, we think about time; the year in the rearview mirror and the year in front of us. Time marches forward, non-stop. Today is a great opportunity to pause and consider time and years through God's perspective.

Psalm 90   A Prayer of Moses, man of God.

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth,

      or ever You had formed the earth and the world,

             from everlasting to everlasting You are God.

You return man to dust

      and say, “Return, O children of man!”

For a thousand years in Your sight are but as yesterday when it is past,

      or as a watch in the night.

You sweep them away as with a flood;

      they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning:

in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;

      in the evening it fades and withers.

For we are brought to an end by Your anger;

      by Your wrath we are dismayed.

You have set our iniquities before You,

      our secret sins in the light of Your presence.

For all our days pass away under Your wrath;

      we bring our years to an end like a sigh.

10 The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty;

      yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.

11 Who considers the power of Your anger,

      and Your wrath according to the fear of You?

12 So teach us to number our days

      that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Moses’ prayer reminds us of the difference between God’s time and ours: For a thousand years in Your sight are but as yesterday when it is past. In this you can find great encouragement in your suffering and struggles. When God promises to always be with you, He means more than just getting you through your current suffering. He means longer than even your life on this earth. If you believe & confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, God will be with you, and you with Him through all eternity!

The same thing applies to God's promises to heal our bodies. Whatever it is, your current suffering is only temporary, compared to eternal life perfectly healed! The number of our suffering days here on earth is TINY compared to our days of eternal life.

As you look forward to 2026, always remember God’s promises & healing for you. You will enjoy a blessed New Year, whatever comes your way!
