Thursday Psalms: Delight In God's Law

Today our focus is Psalm 1, a favorite psalm for many people:

PSALM 1
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
      nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
      and on His law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water
      that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.
      In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
      but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
      nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,

      but the way of the wicked will perish.

Most times when Scripture uses the phrase "the law of the Lord", the 10 Commandments usually come to our minds.  But we should think more broadly than this; "the law of the Lord" really refers to the entire relationship which God created and desires to exist between Him and His people.  Think in terms of your entire life of reading Scripture, prayer, worship and service to God & your neighbors.

Blessed are the men and women who DELIGHT in a loving relationship with God, a life of service and worship!  When hard times come, God sustains you as you cling to His promises and receive His comfort.  When you trust in the Lord, and delight in Him, your roots go down deep and you won't be destroyed or pushed over by the attacks of Satan.  When you stumble and sin, confess them and God will forgive you!  God washes you clean and makes you righteous because Jesus took your punishment; He was righteous in your place!

Delight in God's Law!  Delight in His forgiveness!  AMEN!

Peace in Christ,
