Today we'll consider the first nine verses of Psalm 112. We read "Blessed is the man who fears the Lord..." in the first verse, followed by several descriptions of those blessings. We also read some of the actions of such a person, who delights in the Lord's commandments.
PSALM 112:1-9
1 Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
who greatly delights in His commandments!
2 His offspring will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
6 For the righteous will never be moved;
he will be remembered forever.
7 He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
8 His heart is steady; he will not be afraid,
until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.
9 He has distributed freely; he has given to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever;
his horn is exalted in honor.
In addition to these, God's Word contains many promises of His care & blessings given to His obedient & trusting children. For just one example, in Matthew 6 Jesus says to us "...do not be anxious about your life...your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
I'd like to focus you on one of these blessings which God provides: confidence & trust in His promises. Consider verses 6-8 where we read that a righteous person will never be moved, will not be afraid, and their heart is firm and steady. You and I are righteous, not because of our good works or qualifications, but because Jesus forgives our sins and gives us His righteousness! And so, we can be completely confident in all God's promises, made & kept!
So today, join me in prayer, that God will give us more confidence to trust Him in all things. Pray also that we would seek to live more trustingly, that we won't be moved, afraid, soft-hearted or unsteady!
Peace in Christ,
