“The Parable of
the Good Samaritan” by the Dutch artist Jan Wijnants, 1670
The Fifth Sunday after Pentecost
July 10, 2022
We're glad & thankful you've come here to watch our service and to worship the one true God!
This was another exciting Sunday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church! Once again, we had lots of great activities going on, starting with our 10:30 am Worship Service. Afterward, we gathered for food and conversations, while the children enjoyed Sunday School. These classes are full of activities and teaching, so the children learn how much God loves them!
If you live in the Burton area, please consider joining us for any or all of these weekly events!
Here is information about todays worship service:
SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THIS SERVICE
Old Testament: Leviticus 18:1–5, 19:9–18
Psalm: Psalm 41
Epistle: Colossians 1:1–14
Gospel: Luke 10:25–37
OUR THEME FOR THIS SERVICE
In the gospel reading for today Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan, an account well-known and admired by Christians and non-believers alike. Jesus uses this story to point out the misunderstandings of a Jewish lawyer, which you and I also share at times. We’ll explore several “traps” into which we can stumble if we don’t consider this text properly. The full and proper understanding can be summarized by this statement: Because Jesus saves us from sin and death, we live to show love and mercy to our neighbors.
