We're thankful you've come here to watch our service and to worship the one true God!

This was another exciting Sunday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church! Once again, we had lots of great activities going on, starting with our 10:30 am Worship Service. Afterward, we gathered for food, conversations, and Adult Bible study, while the children enjoyed Sunday School. These classes are full of activities and teaching, so the children learn how much God loves them!

OUR THEME FOR WORSHIP SUNDAY
As many of you know, God has recently blessed Debra & I with our first grandchild. I’m reminded of something we’ve all known for years; there is great interest in announcing who a new baby looks like! "She has her dad’s nose, or ears!" or "He has his mother’s eyes!" For many of us, physical appearances or actions or personalities identify us with our family our entire lives. “Wow, you can sure tell she’s a fill-in-a-last-name!”

In the Epistle lesson for today, God uses the words written by St. Paul to remind us of our family connection: we are His children! Not because we have a nose or ears that look like God, but because God has shown & given us His amazing love! God has made you and me His saints, joined with all His other saints who have walked this earth before us and are now in the heavenly choir. What a privilege and gift we have, to be called saints, to be children of God!

Thursday Psalms: Praise the LORD!

What a great privilege & pleasure to Praise the Lord!  Whether singing or speaking or serving others, or working in our various jobs & vocations, we are blessed to Praise the Lord!  He even commands us to do so.  But why?  We certainly don't deserve to have any relationship with God, we don't merit being in His presence for prayer or praising.  So how is it that we may praise the Lord?

PSALM 149
1 Praise the Lord! 
      Sing to the Lord a new song,
            His praise in the assembly of the godly!
2 Let Israel be glad in his Maker;
      let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!
3 Let them praise His name with dancing,
      making melody to Him with tambourine and lyre!
4 For the Lord takes pleasure in His people;
      He adorns the humble with salvation.
5 Let the godly exult in glory;
      let them sing for joy on their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their throats
      and two-edged swords in their hands,
7 to execute vengeance on the nations
      and punishments on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with chains
      and their nobles with fetters of iron,
9 to execute on them the judgment written!
      This is honor for all His godly ones.
            Praise the Lord! 

We find the answer to this "why" question in verse four:  "For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation."  WOW!  The Lord takes pleasure in...YOU!   Yes, even though you & I and all people sin against the Lord, He continues loving us, desiring to hear our true confessions and He pleasures in forgiving our sins!  WOW!  Even though we're humiliated in our sins, He adorns us, His beloved children, with salvation!

Fully confident in God's promises kept, we all can sleep well, singing for joy on our beds!  We are blessed to rest in comfort, joy and peace, knowing our sins are forgiven and our eternal home is in heaven.  We rest in God's pleasure and salvation, each night and at the end of our days!

Praise the Lord!

All Saints Day devotion

All Saints 2022:  You're One, Too!

Blessed All Saints Day to each one of you, in the name of Jesus, the Lamb of God whom we worship and praise!

Consider the picture God gave to St. John, recorded in Revelation 7:9-17 for us also:
9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”  11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen!  Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever!  Amen.”

13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” 14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.”  And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation.  They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will shelter them with His presence. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat.
17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their Shepherd, and He will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” 

WOW!  This image is so perfect, no man-made image can fully capture its beauty.  But the truly beautiful thing about this picture is... you're in it!  If you believe that Jesus is your Savior, the Lamb of God who forgives your sins, then this is where and how you will spend eternity!

Come to Pilgrim (or watch us online) this Sunday to learn more, including how Jesus makes us saints even today, living in the world which does not know Him.  Come be comforted in knowing you are a child of God!
